Kisatchie National Forest - Calcasieu Ranger District
604,000 acres total forest
E-bikes allowed on all roads and trails open to bicycles. Extensive trail system. Popular for deer and hog hunting.
Kisatchie National Forest - Catahoula Ranger District
E-bikes allowed on roads and trails open to bicycles. Check district-specific trail maps.
Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge
80,000 acres
Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes are allowed anywhere traditional bicycles are permitted on refuge roads and trails, as long as the motor only assists pedaling (no long throttle-only use). Refuge managers can still close specific roads or trails to e-bikes, so always check current Tensas NWR regulations, posted signs, and maps before riding. Louisiana state e-bike rules (including Class 3 helmet and speedometer requirements) still apply inside the refuge.
Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge
Check refuge regulations. Some areas may restrict motorized vehicles including e-bikes.
Toledo Bend Reservoir
Army Corps managed. Check specific area regulations for e-bike use. Some areas allow bicycles.
Kisatchie National Forest WMAs
Approx. 600,000 acres (forest-wide) • Terrain: medium
Umbrella entry for WMAs and hunting areas inside Kisatchie National Forest. E-bikes are generally treated as bicycles under USFS policy when used on roads and trails open to bikes; ALWAYS verify current unit regulations and seasonal motorized closures.
Sherburne WMA
≈ 44,000 acres • Terrain: hard
Atchafalaya Basin access with levee roads and interior trails. Excellent for swamp hunting. E-bikes generally allowed on roads and designated trails open to bicycles; closed areas and walk-in units still apply. Treat this as bicycle access, NOT ATV-style trail riding.
Pearl River WMA
≈ 35,000 acres • Terrain: easy
Extensive road and levee network along the Pearl River. Popular for deer and hog hunting. E-bikes typically allowed anywhere bicycles are allowed; some interior areas may be foot-traffic only. Always confirm current motorized and bicycle rules in the WMA regulations.
Maurepas Swamp WMA
Large swamp complex west of Lake Pontchartrain. Many areas are boat-only or foot access due to water and mud. Limited opportunities for practical e-bike use except on a few access roads and levees. Treat e-bikes as bicycles where they are allowed, and default to walk-in elsewhere.
Joyce WMA
Primarily boardwalk and marsh/swamp habitat. Very limited bicycle or e-bike opportunity; most hunting access is by boat or on foot only. Assume e-bikes are NOT practical here unless LDWF specifically says otherwise.
Tunica Hills WMA
≈ 6,000 acres • Terrain: hard
Steep, bluff country near the Mississippi line. Some roads and trails are suitable for strong riders on Class 1/2 e-bikes. Expect significant climbs, mud, and rough surfaces. Confirm which roads are open to bicycles before riding.
Sicily Island Hills WMA
Hill country in northeast Louisiana with steep ravines and mixed hardwoods. Limited road network but excellent use case for strong e-bike riders on open roads and trailheads. Many interior trails remain foot-only.
Russell Sage WMA
≈ 30,000 acres • Terrain: medium
Large bottomland hardwood tract with levee roads and interior trails. Great candidate for e-bikes on open roads, especially for accessing remote stands. Always respect road-closure signs and walk-in-only areas.
Dewey W. Wills WMA
Big Atchafalaya basin-style habitat with heavy flooding risk. Some roads and levees work for e-bikes in dry conditions, but many sections become boat-only during high water. Treat e-bike access as opportunistic and always check current water-level closures.
Spring Bayou WMA
Mix of bayous, lakes, and bottomland hardwoods. Some gravel roads and levees make sense for e-bikes; many interior hunting spots still require boat or long walks. Use e-bikes mainly for shuttle and access along open roads.
Thistlethwaite WMA
Timber company style road network with planted pines and hardwood drains. Very e-bike friendly on main roads. Interior skid trails and closed roads should still be treated as walk-in unless posted otherwise.
Clear Creek WMA
Piney-woods lease lands with a good network of gravel roads. Strong fit for e-bikes on open roads and some designated trails. Great option for riders wanting drier terrain and road-based access.
Sabine WMA
Border WMA near Texas with mix of pine flats and bottomland. Some roads work well for e-bikes, but flooding and seasonal road closures are common. Always check the latest LDWF notice before riding.
West Bay WMA
Mississippi River batture habitat. Limited road network; much of the access is via levees and unimproved trails that may or may not be open to bikes in a given season.
Atchafalaya Delta WMA
Primarily a delta marsh accessed by boat only. No meaningful opportunity for bicycle or e-bike access; hunting is conducted by boat and on foot on islands.
Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA
Coastal marsh WMA. Most access is boat-based; limited road or levee riding opportunity. If considering e-bikes, use only on clearly open roads and parking areas and expect wind, salt, and corrosion.
Bayou Pierre WMA
Northwest Louisiana WMA with upland habitat and interior roads. Solid candidate for e-bikes on open roads to reach interior stand locations while minimizing sweat and scent.
Boeuf WMA
Delta hardwoods with heavy flooding potential. Some roads and levees make sense for e-bikes in dry periods; expect seasonal closures and challenging mud when wet.
Upper Ouachita NWR
Federal refuge managed by USFWS. Some roads allow bicycles and potentially e-bikes; others are closed to all vehicles. ALWAYS treat refuge regulations as controlling and verify current policy before relying on an e-bike here.
Tensas River NWR
≈ 80,000 acres • Terrain: medium
Federal refuge where compliant Class 1–3 e-bikes are allowed on roads and trails that are open to bicycles, following U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service rules (motor assist only, no long throttle-only use) and Louisiana state e-bike laws (Class 3 requires a helmet and speedometer). Treat your e-bike like a bicycle on open refuge roads and dikes, but always check Tensas NWR maps, regulations, and posted signs for any closures, walk-in areas, or local restrictions before you hunt.
Other Louisiana WMAs & Public Areas
Louisiana has many additional WMAs, refuges, and conservation areas beyond this list. Use this guide as a starting point, then cross-check the LDWF WMA map and regulations pamphlet for the exact area you plan to hunt. When in doubt, treat e-bikes like bicycles on open roads only and call LDWF for clarification.
