Lafitte Greenway

A 2.6‑mile paved greenway connecting Mid‑City to the French Quarter, with lighting, public art, and quick access to some of New Orleans' best food and coffee.

New Orleans, LA
2.6 miles (one way)

Overview

The Lafitte Greenway is a rails‑to‑trails style corridor that slices across New Orleans, linking Mid‑City to the edge of the French Quarter near Basin Street. It's wide, paved, and has lighting and crosswalks — a rare piece of dedicated bike infrastructure in the city.

On an e-bike, it becomes the backbone of a whole network: connect from neighborhoods to the Greenway, then branch out into the French Quarter, CBD, or Bayou St. John. Perfect for Class 1–3 bikes ridden at respectful speeds.

How to Ride It

  • • Start near Bayou St. John or Carrollton Ave for easy parking and access.
  • • Cruise toward downtown, using crosswalk signals at major streets.
  • • At the French Quarter end, decide if you want to lock up and walk, or continue on streets.
  • • Turn around and ride back, or link into other routes like the levee or city streets.

E-Bike Etiquette on the Greenway

Keep speeds to a social pace when it's busy — 12–15 mph is usually plenty in urban traffic.

Use a bell and eye contact at crossings and when passing runners or slower cyclists.

At night, use strong lights front and rear. Parts of the Greenway feel more isolated after dark — ride with a friend when possible.

Access & Map

Bike in from nearby neighborhoods or look for public parking near Broad, Carrollton, or Bayou St. John.

Pro Tips

  • Use the Greenway to scout coffee shops, breweries, and food spots you'll come back to later.
  • Combine this with a levee ride or French Quarter cruise for a bigger urban loop.
  • Weekday mornings are the calmest time if you want fewer crossings and pedestrians.
