New Orleans Levee Trail

Classic Mississippi River levee ride with skyline views, ship traffic, and wide‑open pavement — a favorite for locals dialing in their e-bike setup.

Uptown • Riverbend • Jefferson
10–20+ miles (choose your out‑and‑back)
Easy • Wind‑exposed

Overview

The New Orleans levee trail is an informal but extremely popular e-bike route that follows the Mississippi River levee. You'll ride above the city with panoramic views of the river, ships, and skyline, while mostly avoiding car traffic.

Much of the ride is wide, smooth pavement shared with joggers, dog walkers, and other cyclists. It's great for Class 1 and 2 e-bikes, and many locals also ride Class 3 — just keep your speed in check around other users.

Popular Route Options

Audubon Park ⇄ Riverbend

8–10 miles

Classic local ride. Park near Audubon and head upriver toward Riverbend and Jefferson. Mostly paved, easy grades, and tons of places to grab food before or after.

Long Levee Session

20+ miles

Turn your ride into a training session by pushing farther upriver past Jefferson. Wide‑open levee and wind exposure make this a fun range test for your e-bike.

E-Bike Tips for the Levee

Wind matters. Expect strong headwinds in one direction — save battery for the way back.

Stay alert at crossings where ramps connect down to neighborhood streets. Cars may not expect bikes dropping off the levee.

Check local rules before riding at night. Lights, reflectors, and high‑visibility gear are a must along the levee.

Typical Access Points

Common starting spots include Audubon Park, the Fly, Riverbend area, and Jefferson playgrounds.
